Cressi Duke Dry Full Face Snorkelling Mask Info
Cressi claim to have 'invented' the first full face mask, the Medusa, back in 1946 although in its infancy it didn't separate the breathing chamber from the vision chamber - at that time Cressi owned a patent for the Medusa Mask.
Fast forward and the all new Cressi Duke Dry Full Face Snorkelling Mask has arrived allowing the snorkeller to breathe easily and naturally while face down in the water and remain dry.
While the Cressi Duke is not the first full-face snorkelling mask, it is the first to use a new system of breathing which doesn't require the need for force to exhale air through a central tube and opening more than one valve.
What else makes the Cressi Duke Full Face Snorkelling Mask different from all others ? And how does the Duke allow the snorkeller to breathe freely, sufficiently expelling CO2 build-up, and not fog up the vision chamber ?
These three features put the Cressi Duke in a class of its own:
- The advantage of lateral tube position.
- An excellent Anti-fogging effect.
- A minimal build-up of residual CO2.
By repositioning the breathing tube laterally, Cressi believe this is the shortest possible route for air flow with minimal effort, this new system is currently under patent.
The left-side breathing tube is divided into two before entering the two seperate chambers. One is connected to the breathing chamber and the other is connected to the vision chamber. This advantage is enhanced by the fact that neither the breathing chamber nor the tube has any valves to impede the user’s breath. The extraction chamber also has an enlarged volume in order to allow for optimal CO2 extraction. As a result the air flow system in the Cressi Duke Snorkelling Mask produces far less CO2 build-up than a safety gas mask.
The second independent tube. It’s connected to the vision chamber, and extracts moisture and warm air that builds up in this chamber, completely separate from the breathing chamber.
The full face snorkelling mask also has a deflector, which is also under patent, to help maximise the extraction of warm air produced by the face during use, it is designed to work virtually like a chimney, forcing air circulation away from the lens to help reduce potential condensation/warmth build-up.
The Cressi Duke has large outlet valves at its base, to drain the mask quickly & easily should the mask fill with water. One large outlet valve below the mouth which has nothing to do with the breathing system.

Founded in 1946 by two brothers Egidio and Nanni Cressi, they skillfully produced handcrafted equipment on a small scale, with Egidio personally testing all the equipment and carrying out many of the first sea trials. The original principles of attention to detail and quality standards are still relevant today and Antonio Cressi, son and nephew of the founders, continues to personally test many of Cressi's new products.
