World Atlas of Marine Fishes
This is an invaluable reference book for the great variety of fishes found in the world's seas. As such, it is of value to all fish enthusiasts be they biogeographers and ichthyologists, divers and aquarists or fishermen, by Rudie H Kuiter and Helmut Debelius.
This book sets a benchmark for the identification of over 4,200 species of fish. It provides the greatest possible coverage and primarily aims to assist people interested in marine fishes and their scientific names or classification. The photographs are carefully sized to clearly identify the fish.
This World Atlas includes both tropical and temperate fishes that are found around inshore coral and rocky reefs, as well as pelagics that visit these waters. Most of the species occur on shallow reefs in tropical seas, with the greatest species diversity in the Southeast Asian regions.
The larger families of fishes are introduced by a general summary of their distribution and habitat, the number of species in the family, notable facts on their behaviour and aquarium suitability. The smaller families are introduced in combined family groups. Sharks and rays that comprise numerous orders or families with just one, two or a few species are treated as single large groups. In the case of very large families like wrasses, damsels and gobies, separate introductions may be dedicated to each distinctive sub-family.
- Some 4,200 species are included
- With more than 6,000 photographs of marine fishes
- Hardback, 720 pages, 21 x 28 cms
