Scuba Diving BCDs

The BCD or Buoyancy Control Device is an essential piece of equipment for the recreational scuba diver. The BCD enables a diver to control their depth in the water by inflating or deflating the BCD as necessary. It also offers positive buoyancy when at the surface whilst swimming to shore or awaiting boat pick up.

There are a wide variety of BCDs available to cater for different needs such as lightweight BCDs for the travelling diver or BCDs with larger bladders offering higher  'lift' capacity to provide greater buoyancy for cold water diving when using more weight to compensate for wearing more thermals/drysuit/thicker wetsuit. A BCD jacket will have quick release buckles and either a jacket or harness style configuration for maximum adjustment and comfortable fit. A common feature of many modern BCDs is the use of integrated weight pockets replacing the need for the traditional weight belt.
